What the hell? Noah's Flood... oh come on. Fair enough if they want to offer an explanation to the Creationists, but geez, taking it that far is ridiculous.
Holy crap. That is utterly ridiculous. Don't want to 'offend' the fundamentalists?!? What about not offending the rest of us by insulting our intelligence with such complete drivel?!
I totally despair of this section of humanity. How can the most powerful governmental administration in the world be so absolutely, mind-bogglingly stupid? Give me a break. *shakes head in dismay*
The park service info DOES give estimated geological age in their informational web-site, but apparently it is not stressed, and the creationist book is sold in all the tourist stores. This kind of stuff is not limitted to Fundamentalist Christians but also to people in many belief systems. Alaska natives have stopped participating in a human genome diversity project because the results might provide information that will counter their native creation mythology. To me it is quite wrong to avoid information lest it contradict one's beliefs.
I am a solitary creature. Not from dislike of my fellows, but just by my nature. I tend to absorb completely in whatever I am doing, losing track of everything else. It is a strength and a weakness. I am not a multitasker. I think the world is an amazing and beautiful place. The more we know about it, the more astounding it is.
